Nope. At the KH I would smile or wink at the person that came in late. I hope it made them feel a bit more welcome. If I saw someone out of the KH I would greet them. They were the ones that smiled and said hi and then walked away quickly incase someone saw. One of the ladies that got reinstated came to thank me afterwards said it ment a lot to her to see one friendly face at the KH week after week.

When you were a dub, did you shun DF/DA'd people?
by exwitless inactually, in my 14 years as a dub, it only came up with one person in our cong.
who got pregnant out of wedlock (and used drugs during pregnancy).
she was df'd but still came to most meetings.

Confidentiality and the elders.
by LtCmd.Lore inwhile talking to a jw elder: if you specifically state that you are speaking to him as and elder, and that you want the conversation to be classified.
is he legally required to keep it secret, like a church confessional or doctor/patient type thing?.

My PO father in law always to drop hints about what was going on in the congo. Never use to mension names but said things like "a certain young lady thought it was ok to sleep with her boyfriend but because of crossed line on the telephone an elder heard her talking to the boyfriends and realised it was them it was jah's way of keeping the congo clean."
Yes that is one of the many stories we heard.
There was a guy df'ed for among other things child abuse. My father in law left the paper work on his desk (we used to work together) and asked me to go and get something for him. I think it was his way to warn me that I must keep my kids away from this guy. He was usally more careful about leaving his JC minutes laying aroung. I'm greatful he did that as my son was friends with this perverts grandson so I could make sure that the play dates were at my house and not at his.

COULD BE GONE FOR AWHILE!
by Dansk indear all,.
those of you who have posted here regularly for the past four years have helped me immensely in my recovery from watchtower and have shared with me in my journey.
you will also know that, after winning my battle with watchtower (save for one daughter who is still stuck fast in the org and shunning the rest of us), i have been fighting an even greater battle these past three years - cancer!.

Taking control of my life....this is what i'm gonna do.
by R.F. inas many of you may know, i'm currently an ms and pioneer, and been missing meetings consistently for almost 2 months.
i have been concerned about my dad's reaction to me wanting to leave the org and he's been questioning me about missing meetings.
well i've decided now not to jump through the elders' hoops anymore.

Is this the correct place for an introduction??
by student1 inlong time lurker from the uk... making my first post ooh scary...the reason posting now is that i need some advice on talking to my jw family and friends, without their walls coming up!
having read this forum for a good year, you all seem to be expert linguists!
i want to be like an indiana jones type character and slip through the sliding door in to the tomb (my sisters brain!

Welcome to the forum.
Baby steps works best with JW, if you come to your sister with a question and asking for her help on a specific topic like 607/587 she will still be the JW teacher and you the student. You will be making her think and that's all you need a little seed of doubt. Call her up and tell her your sorry the way you reacted and ask her for help.

Divorce rates among JWs higher?
by AK - Jeff indo you believe that divorce rates among jw's is higher or lower than the averages now?.
in the us - at least recently - it was said that about 50% of all marriages will end in divorce.. for decades as a jw - i believed that jw's were immune from this statistic.
among the older married couples divorce seemed almost unheard of - and still, among the older crowd, that holds true i believe.

It's the same here in South Africa. Divorce among the JW is very high.

Birthdays and Job
by emptywords inthe societys stance on birthdays is either blatantly a lie, or a lack of bible knowledge on the part of the governing body!
while still attending at the kingdom hall i read job 1:4 where jobs childreneach had celebrations in his own day.
then read in job after his kids died and all his possession were lost where job cursed his own day.

It's just anotherway that the WBTS make the rank and file feel unworthy. We receive undersered kindness from Jah and we are not worthy enough to celebrate our birthday. We are not worthy enough to receive gifts from friends and family to celebrate being alive! What a lot of bs.

Same thing happened to us. When the False Religion tract was been handed out we saw the JW walking up our street. We couldn't wait for them to knock at the door so we could ask them a few questions. The youg man knocked gave his presentation my husband replied "Oh good we've heard about this tract and were wondering when we would get our copy." He smiled said thank you and left as fast as possible. I could not believe it. If a householder reacted like that when I was still putting in time I would have been happy to chat. Seems like they would rather just place whatever they have and run.
